Personnel of Beth Din and Kashrus Authority

THE BETH DIN

For a Beth Din to be fully constituted a forum of three is required. It would appear that from its earliest days the Manchester Beth Din was made up of three Dayonim and this is the case until today. Dayan Gavriel Krausz shlit’a, occupies the position of Rosh Beis Din and Dayan Yitzchok Berger shlit’a that of Av Beis Din. Dayan Yehuda Osher Steiner shlit’a is the third member. Rabbi Yehuda Brodie (see below) occupies the position of Registrar. KASHRUS AUTHORITY

Honorary Officers:

The Constitution of the Authority provides for the various Synagogues to appoint Delegates. From these Delegates, Honorary Officers are elected who are responsible for the policy of the Authority and its financial structure. The Officers meet on a very regular basis to receive reports from the administrator and to decide on all matters involved in the running of the Authority.

Executive Committee:

An Executive Committee is also elected. This body meets less often to receive reports from the Honorary Officers and to advise as and when required. The Executive Committee also serves as the Licensing Committee and have the task of deciding on the grant of a license in association with the Beth Din.

Administrator/Registrar:

Rabbi Yehuda Brodie joined the Beth Din and Authority in 1976. He is Manchester born and educated. Following schooling at Broughton Jewish Primary School and Bury Grammar School, he spent a period at Manchester Yeshiva. This was followed by enrolment at Manchester Metropolitan University where he graduated with a B.A. Honours in Law. He was granted his Rabbinical Diploma in 2001.

Kashrus Director:

Rabbi Moshe Chaim Klarberg was born in Sydney Australia. He attended school both in Australia and the USA followed by an extensive period of learning in both Yeshivos and Kollelim in Israel and finally Manchester Yeshiva Kollel. He joined the Authority in 1997 and is responsible for the co-ordination of shechita and many areas of supervision. He has written a number of publications and has had published a variety of articles on matters of Kashrus. He is a popular lecturer and speaker.

Finance Director:

Mr. Michael Livshin was born in Salford and was educated at Prestwich Jewish Day School and Stand Grammar. He graduated from Strathclyde University with a degree in Economics. He has held accountancy positions with Gardner Merchant and Manchester City Council before joining the Authority in 2007.

P.A. to the Administrator:

Miss Jayne Simmonds is the first point of contact for those calling the Authority. Born in Salford, she was educated at Prestwich Jewish Day School and the Jewish High School. She joined the Authority following a period in college where she obtained her secretarial skills. She has considerable experience in all aspects of the activities of the Kashrus Authority and |Beth Din.
