Shmitoh Update Kislev 5769
Although the Shmitoh year has ended, the laws of Shmitoh still apply to a large range of products. As previously publicised, all vegetables and herbs from Israel are presently S’fichin and may not be bought or eaten. There is a large amount of fresh Israeli herbs on sale. Please check the label indicating country of origin. Below is a list of products and when they will be permitted:

Sweet Potatoes 1 Jan
Strawberries 4 Jan
Tomatoes 1 Jan
The following is a list of Israeli fruits that are, or will shortly be available in the shops and which should be avoided. If purchased in error, they should be treated with the restrictions of K’dushas Shvi’is.
Avocado Dates Figs Grapefruit
Grapes Guava Japanese Plum Kumquat
Mango Nectarine Oranges Peaches
Pomelos Prune/ Plum Sabra Sharon Fruit Tangerine
Israeli Papaya and Passion fruit should be avoided at all times as they present a problem of Orloh.
There is still a large amount of Israeli pleasant smelling flowers that should be avoided.

Kashrus Alerts Cheshvan 5769
The following Innocent Drinks contain Grape Juice and should not be used:
Blackberries, raspberries & boysenberries
Carrots & mangoes
Cranberries, yumberries & blackcurrant
Strawberries & bananas
Tropica Spirit contains grape juice and should not be used.
Australian Raisins and Sultanas – non-kosher oil could be used in the drying process and therefore they should be avoided. This does not apply to Australian currants.
Colgate Plax is no longer under the supervision of the Manchester Beis Din
Bulmers Cider is no longer Kosher
Jordan’s Frusli Blueberries & Cranberries and Wild Berries & Juicy Rasins in new packaging now contain grape juice and should be avoided
Humdinger’s fruit bars and fruit stix are under the supervision of the Manchester Beis Din. The logo will be appearing on the packaging.
Pura vegetable and sunflower oil have the logo of the Manchester Beis Din on each bottle.
It is preferable, whenever possible to buy food products made under reliable Rabbinical supervision.
